Pearson Vue CompTIA CASP CAS-003

This is a review on the hardcover book of Pearson Vue CompTIA CASP CAS-003 book that was published in 2018. This review is written after my first attempt at the CAS-003 exam.

The CAS-003 is not something that should be taken lightly. However, it’s does not require as much technical comprehension as the the Security+ exams. That being said, this book does briefly cover most of the domains required in the CAS-003 exam. By briefly, I mean it does not provide deep enough comprehension and explanation required by the exam. It does provide insight for those looking for entry level comprehension of Info Sec on the administrative perspective. It does not provide sufficient information and explanation to answer many of the scenarios provided in the exam. In short it tells you what to think for certain scenarios. Not how to think for scenarios that the book does not cover. “… teach a man to fish…”

By getting the tangible book you are provided free access to online practice tests from Pearson Vue. Aside from the questions in the practice tests not really being close to what’s on the exam, a lot of the questions lack specificity to allow one to determine the correct answer. It’s like the person generating the question has the scenario and conditions set in their mind and correct response, but do not convey that information. An example is determining a risk avoidance method for cloud-based architecture and not stating what kind of cloud-based architecture is being used.
